Ischia Island

After a few weeks of not having a computer, I am back! A few weekends ago, my friends and I took a weekend trip to the beautiful island of Ischia. Ischia is a volcanic island located in the Bay of Naples, near Capri and Procida. Early Saturday morning, we started our journey to Ischia to have as much time as possible to visit. Even though the skies were cloudy and the rain was torrential we set off to Ischia for a new adventure.

When planning our trip, one of my friends suggested that we stay in a hostel since they are usually cheaper and are known for their social environments. After sorting through a few options we finally settled on the Paradise Beach Hostel…and boy was it paradise! The views from the property were absolutely spectacular. The hostel reminded me of the homes you see in Greece, white with the true blue shutters. The property even had a small vineyard, making it even more appealing. Once the rain finally ceased we spent the day sightseeing, followed by an aperitivo (cocktails) at American Pub and dinner at Porcavacca Ischia Steakhouse. After dinner we settled in our room and slept to the soothing sound of the ocean waves reaching the shore.

We woke up early the next morning, packed up our things and set off through the island to the Baia di Sorgeto (Sorgeto Hot Spring). I had been looking forward to the going to the hot springs all week and it did not disappoint. After walking through a small residential area with the most splendid view of the Mount Epomeo, we were met with a beautiful view of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Ischia coastline. We arrived to the hot springs at about 9 o’clock and since the previous day was mostly filled with rain and moderate winds the waves were still high. We didn’t let that stop us and after securing a safe spot away from the restless waves we enjoyed the warm temps of the natural hot spring. At one point we had to change positions to a cooler area since the water in our original spot had reached boiling temperatures. Yes! You could actually see and hear the water start to boil.

Once the hot springs started to get crowded we decided to leave and after hearing our grumbling stomachs we decided it was time to eat. We enjoyed a delicious Italian brunch at Ristorante a Sorgeto, where we ordered cappuccinos (with chocolate for me) and bruschetta (bread topped with tomatoes, herbs, and olive oil). The warm springs, delicious brunch and the dazzling views made a perfect and tranquil morning. After the hot springs we took cab back to the hostel to retrieve our luggage and headed to the Forio area of the island for lunch, followed more relaxation at a nearby beach before our ferry departure.
