Austin Recap

For my first trip back in the states, my best friend and I along with her younger sister and boyfriend rang in the New Year in Austin, Texas. The last time I was in Austin was 8-10 years ago when I toured the University of Texas as a prospective student. I remember my time being extremely hot (it was during the summer and the temperature was well over 100 degrees). Having loved the city then, I was excited to return to the city and experience it as a young adult. The vibrant city of Austin is full of great nightlife and amazing cuisine. FROM the GRAM

On our first night out in Austin, we went to two bars on Rainey Street, the Container Bar and Unbarlievable. Both bars have amazing and intriguing concepts. The design concept of the Container Bar is unique as it is essentially seven stacks of shipping containers whose interior has been transformed into bars and lounges. The shipping containers surround an open area where all the dancing takes place. Unbarlievable is an eclectic and revelry circus-themed bar and the minute you walk into the bar you feel like you are transported to an exciting and lively circus. The bar even has a mini SLIDE, yes a SLIDE, that was easily the highlight of my night.

On New Year’s day, we went mini golfing at Monster Mini Golf, where I started a little rocky barely able to actually make the golf club meet the golf ball to my triumphant second place VICTORY! It was a great start to my new year! haha

If you follow me on Instagram and watched my IG Stories then you saw you that we ate really good! On the first night, we had dinner at Torchy’s Tacos, I ordered a chicken fajita taco and a Mr. Orange taco. Although they were both “damn good,” I really like the Mr. Orange that comes with blackened salmon, grilled corn, black bean relish, cotija cheese, cilantro, and a lime wedge with avocado sauce. The following day we had lunch at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen and it was also amazing. I ordered the lobster mac & cheese and asparagus. I had never heard of Pappadeaux’s — well except from a Gucci Mane song, but I didn’t know what it was — and it was delicious. Apparently, they have them in several cities in the United States, so from now on every city I visit I’ll see if they have a Pappadeaux’s. On the last day of my stay, we went to Pluckers Wing Bar for some scrumptious wings where I ordered half buffalo medium and half cajun wings with loaded waffle fries.
