Almost everyday after we had our Italian language lessons Accademia Italiana arranged for us to go on cultural excursions. These included activities like going to tour a mozzarella cheese factory, ceramics painting, touring of historical churches and ancient Greek cities. On this particular day we toured the ancient Greek city, Paestum. The Greeks founded the city of Paestum in 600 B.C. The city is about an hour train ride from Naples and a thirty-minute train ride from Salerno. I remember almost skipping this excursion because at the time I had a really bad sinus infection from changing environments. I’m really glad I didn’t skip the tour. The actual small city of Paestum is very charming with picturesque views of mountains and farmlands so if you have time I suggest doing a little exploring. There is a really good Gelato place (sorry I forgot the name but you can’t miss it) very close to the ancient ruins that is great for cooling down and enjoying the views.
